This is a blog : the 13th : Don’t tell Mom the babysitters dead

Your 17 years old and your Mom tells you she’s going on vacation for two months . Summer break here I come! Until she tells you that she’s hired a babysitter to watch you and your five other brothers and sisters. As if.

That’s what happened to Ellen Crandell played by Christina Applegate. This sweet old woman of course is just an act till the mom leaves and as luck would have it for these kids, she actually died in her sleep. What’s to do but to get rid of the body right? Now the real fun can begin. Right?

As the brothers and sisters soon realize they have no cash and no food. It’s up to Ellen to get a job to help make ends meet. First she works at Clown Dog. What a drag.

Your kidding me right? Ellen had to get out quick.  She realizes her passion is in fashion! So with no contacts and no history of any college she forges a resume and applies to General Apparel West to be a receptionist.

Rose Lindsey played by actress  Joanna Cassidy, loves her resume so much she offers her a job as an administrative assistant. What luck! She soon realizes working at a high end job has its perks!
Soon she takes a little petty cash here and a little petty cash there, just to help out her brothers and sisters. It’s totally justified. Still not getting the hang of adult responsibilities Ellen soon finds herself in a web of lies, stolen cash, and a boyfriend she can’t keep lying to. Oh, and her company she now works for is about to go under. What’s a seventeen year old to do? Ellen takes it into her own hands and comes up with a design that saves the company! Unfortunalty during the party her mom comes home early! Busted.
Rose soon finds out the company was saved thanks to Ellen and even offers her the job as her personal assistant! Her reply ” I’m going to college first.”  The movies ends in a quirky note when Ellen’s Mom asks where the babysitter Mrs. Sturak is.  Well… she’s somewhere.

Be sure to check out this film with an all-star cast. Christina Applegate, Joanna Cassidy, John Getz, Keith Coogan, Josh Charles, Concetta Tomei, David Duchovny, Kimmy Robertson, Jayne Brook, Eda Reiss Merin, Robert Hy Gorman, Danielle Harris, Christopher Pettiet, Jeff Bollow, and Michael Kopelow keep it quirky and funny all throughout.

This is a blog : the ninth : Seems Like Old Times

If you’re looking for a great comedy love movie Seems Like Old Times should be playing on your TV right now. If you have Netflix add this movie to your list. This 1980 film stars Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn, and Charles Grodin.

xseems-like-old-times-goldie-hawn-chevy-chase_jpg_pagespeed_ic_O1sSPJdriw

Nick Gardenia (Chase) was forced to rob a bank and becomes a fugitive. He then seeks help from his ex-wife Glenda Parks (Hawn), a public defender. She is currently married to Ira Parks (Grodin) a LA county district attorney who hates Nick. Nick finds his way to Glenda and Ira’s house. Glenda finds him hiding in her garage and decides to help him while at the same time hiding it from her husband.

SeemsLikeOldTimes8

This film has a lot of laughs and a lot of great supporting actors and actresses. As I watched this movie I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was. I thought to myself, “Oh another Chevy Chase movie.” I personally don’t like his movies that much because I believe all the National Lampoon movies he’s in are so overrated. As I watched this film I was surprised and was thrown for a loop. I loved the chemistry between all three actors. I really felt like what I was watching was a real story. Goldie Hawn delivered a great performance as well. She had a sweet, genuine demeanor about her in this film. We feel bad for Ira throughout this film as he has no clue what is going on.

SeemslikeOldTimes-Still6

This is a great movie to watch with your girlfriends or with family as long as you admire classic films. If you are looking for a similar movie a 1942 film The Talk of the Town is about a wrongfully accused man hiding out at the home of a beautiful woman.

This is a blog : the eighth : The Out of Towners

I have never seen this movie until now. As I scrolled through Netflix I saw a picture of Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. It has to be good I thought. I was right.

out-of-towners-1999-DI-4

This 1999 movie the Out of Towners is a remake of a 1970 film by the same name. Henry (played by Steve Martin) and Nancy ( played by Goldie) are from Ohio. We see that Henry has lost his job but doesn’t tell his wife. After leaving for New York Nancy gets lonely and basically follows him onto the plane. Everything that can go wrong, goes wrong in this movie. Although its probably very unlikely all these things would happen to a person, its a great comedy. There “lovely” trip involves being rerouted to Boston, their luggage lost, mugged, cards being declined, thrown out of hotel, robbed, and chased by police. “Only in New York,” Steve Martin’s character says. Don’t worry thou everything turns out great at the end and he gets the job and they start their new life in New York.

98e6b8ba776dd67af3ea0007e8717edc

I was shocked when I read on Wikipedia that it didn’t even get a high rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I love this movie. Its a movie you can watch every year. As I watch this movie during the Christmas time, I connect more to the characters. I love Christmas because “everyone is happy no matter what” is what I say. Thou this isn’t a Christmas movie, most of the movie scenes are at night and the clothing they wear is that of coats and jackets because I’m guessing its the winter time.

Thou I’m not a big fan of Goldie Hawn’s daughter Kate Hudson, Goldie delivers a great performance. She is just a wife trying to be there for her husband thou she isn’t quite sure she wants to be with him now that the kids are out of the house. She sticks by her man through it all.

60287-TheOutof-13122925368_32

Steve Martin plays a great role as well. Thou he has the world on his shoulders and time is ticking to get to his job interview, we see a character that is determined. We see his character Henry tell off Nancy a few times but he wants this job for her; to provide for her.

001e3fb4_medium

You will not be disappointed if you take a chance on this movie. You won’t think “oh man I wasted my time.” Thou not one of the popular movie you hear about this movie will make you laugh and even possibly cry. Don’t all sapping love movies?

This is a blog : the seventh : May

While watching May you almost feel bad for her character. The movie May came out in 2002. I wouldn’t catagorize this under horror but more psychological horror. This film stars Angela Bettis, Jeremy Sisto, Anna Faris, and James Duval.

may (1)

The film is about a girl named May (played by Bettis). She receives a doll on her birthday from her mom but can’t open it. May ,older, works at a veterinary hospital assisting surgeries. May is “off” and weird. She talks to her doll and throughout the film because she has no friends, and as May gets angry, the glass cracks. We see May has a lazy eye that traumatized her childhood growing up. She sees an eye doctor and get contacts and also get more courage to talk to Adam. He is a mechanic that May watches and has a crush on. She loves his hands. They start dating while May’s co-worker (played by Anna Faris) hits on her. May goes to Polly (Ferris) when she is sad and they become friends. Polly has a beautiful neck (according to May). Throughout the film we see May trying to connect with people. But with friends comes consequences. As Adam and May get closer, Adam sees that May is more crazy than weird. When he dumps her May because hysterical and does what her dolls inscription says “If you can’t find a friend, make one.”

traumaMAYtot4

As I watch this movie I notice that there isn’t that much music, so if you’re okay with no music most of film, then watch this movie. I like this movie because this movie is about connection. When we are alone we can go crazy. Humans need contact. We need comfort. With May, we see how little things can add up and can make someone do whatever it takes to get that comfort.

Now in the beginning of this blog I said we feel bad for May. This is why. May is a normal person. She just has no friends because she her lazy eye made her self-conscious. As she is introduced to weird elements and top of thinking she hears her doll talk back we see her emotions come out. She doesn’t know how to react to things so she freaks out. People who have no one to talk to based their actions on their own thoughts. This film takes a girl that is so full of love and warmth but makes her into a disturbing girl.

mayboymqdefaultmay_movie

Critics praised the film for its unique feel while also complimenting its brutality through the eyes of someone who is so caught up in their own fantasy of sorts. Roger Ebert granted the film four stars out of four, and called it “a horror film and something more and deeper, something disturbing and oddly moving”

This is a blog : the sixth : Artifact

The best music artist documentary I have watched would have to be Artifact. In 2012, Thirty Seconds to Mars showcased the music industry in this film. Thirty Seconds to Mars decides to leave EMI so EMI sues for $30 million because of a breach in contract in 2008. Shortly after This is War is made.

72d82188ef7cdfef3a7491706df3654b

Have you ever been so mad at someone or something you just want to scream? I am a park person. I like going to parks late at night when its chilly. The cold air calms me and is therapeutic for me. Jared Leto likes to throw rocks off cliffs. We all have our ways we de-stress. This film was a big middle finger back to EMI from Thirty Seconds to Mars basically saying don’t mess with the artists. This film focuses on the relationships between labels and artists.

In August 2008, the band attempted to sign with a new label after completing the A Beautiful Lie tour. This in turn prompted EMI to file a lawsuit stating that the band had failed to produce three of the five records they were obligated to deliver under their 1999 contract. Thirty Seconds to Mars responded to by stating that under California law one cannot be bound to a contract for more than seven years. The band had been contracted for nine years, so they decided to exercise their legal right to terminate.

26ef6ceee3b0082ec378bb69882f613f

Jared Leto, his brother Shannon Leto, and Tomo Milicevic throughout the film are in progress of making their new album. The documentary was going to be about the band but since the EMI got in the way Jared Leto made it be known he wasn’t going down without a fight. We see throughout the film how Guy Hands played a big role in EMI as TF chairman. This billionaire takes over EMI Virgin Records and basically didn’t know anything about the music industry. Other musicians give their first-hand accounts of their own experiences in the business throughout this film as well.

Thirty Seconds to Mars were millions of dollars in debt to EMI yet never got paid. After nearly a year of legal battles, Thirty Seconds To Mars announced on April 28, 2009, that the suit had been settled. Jared Leto explained, “The California Appeals Court ruled that no service contract in California is valid after seven years, and it became known as the De Havilland Law after she used it to get out of her contract with Warner Bros.” Thirty Seconds to Mars then signed a new contract with EMI. Leto said that the band had “resolved our differences with EMI” and the decision had been made because of “the willingness and enthusiasm by EMI to address our major concerns and issues, [and] the opportunity to return to work with a team so committed and passionate about Thirty Seconds to Mars.”

Leto told Rolling Stone that “I hope that artists and audiences watch this film and get a greater understanding of how things work [in the record industry], because understanding is the beginning of change.”

5a5650f7555d9570ae6d4c07a30650e3

On a sidenote I would love to meet Jared Leto one day. Not as a crazed sex fiend girl but as a intellectual smart woman only wanting to be friends.

This is a blog : the fifth : Mr. Nobody

Let me start by saying I wish Ive seen this movie when I first heard about it and stopped putting it off. Mr. Nobody delivers stunning performances by various actors and actresses throughout the film. I call a movie like Mr. Nobody a “life” movie which means it tells a story of someone’s life.

mrnobody_featured

This 2009 indie, science fiction drama film was written and directed by Jaco Van Dormael, produced by Philippe Godeau, and starred Jared Leto. Sound familiar? Yeah the guy who sings in 30 Seconds to Mars. Let’s not forget he was an actor before he was a singer. Any My So-Called life fans out there?!

mr-nobodyjkjh

In 2092 Nemo Nobody is about to turn 118 and he is the last mortal on Earth. Humans have found a way to stay mortal through renewing cells. The world is watching Mr. Nobody and his psychiatrist Dr. Feldheim put him under hypnosis to ask about his life. Mr. Nobody tells his life but no one is sure what is real and what is not. He tells the story if how his parents met, how he fell in love, and how he had to make an impossible choice. Nemo is 9 and has been put into a position where he must make an impossible decision – to choose between his mother and father. In the seconds preceding the rest of his life he wonders where each choice will take him. Alternate life paths are shown throughout the film and how each one takes us down different roads. The tale of Nemo Nobody reflects a life of choices, whether or not we made the correct choice and what would happen if we could go back and change them. In the reveal Mr. Nobody age 118 states that it doesn’t matter what we choose, because each choice, once made has just as much significance as any alternate choice.

mr-nobody

Mr. Nobody is a tale about choice. The forces of the universe working to bring about total chaos are counteracted by this boy’s overactive imagination. The dilemma that causes the film’s main problem (not knowing the future) once solved makes it all the more difficult – “I don’t know the future, therefore I cannot make a decision. Now that I know the future I still cannot make one.”

tumblr_lnifmsOq8v1qg644jo1_500

Like the movie The Sixth Sense, color plays a vital role in this film as symbolic meanings. Among each storyline a color is represented. The first scene we see this in is when Nemo is a kid and he sees three girls on a bench. They are his possible future wives: Jeanne, Elise and Anna; one in yellow, the other in blue, the third in a red dress. The color blue is associated with Elise where Nemo experiences depression and despair. The color yellow is associated with Jeanne where Nemo has wealth and seeks independence. The most important is the color red. This symbolizes Nemo and Anna’s relationship and their love for each other. The underlying color used is white. White sygnafies that all things are possible until a choice is made.

mr-nobody-jared-leto-diane-kruger

Over the years Mr. Nobody has become a cult film for its philosophy and cinematography, personal characters and Pierre Van Dormael’s soundtrack.
Actors and actresses in this movie include the following ; Jared Leto, Toby Regbo, Thomas Byrne, Sarah Polley, Clare Stone, Diane Kruger, Eva Green, Juno Temple, Linh Dan Pham, Audrey Giacomini, Rhys Ifans, and Natasha Little.
Mr. Nobody has philosophical underpinning inspired by scientific tomes on chaos theory and the butterfly effect, pigeon superstition, and the space-time continuum. Louis Morin is a visual effects supervisor who worked on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and also on this film.
The soundtrack features songs by Pierre Van Dormael, Buddy Holly, Hans Zimmer, Otis Redding, Eurythmics, Pixies, Wallace Collection, Nena, Ella Fitzgerald, and The Andrew Sisters, as well as versions of “Mr. Sandman” performed by The Chordettes, The King Brothers, Emmylou Harris, and Gob, and recordings of compositions by Erik Satie and Benjamin Britten, among others.

This is a blog : the fourth : Doctor Who

Doctor Who? Doctor Who, you know, that British TV show with the guy in the blue box that travels through space and time.

3d-Tardis-tardis-6289825-1024-768

Let me just start out by saying that Doctor Who is pretty much that show I’ve never watched and wished I watched as a kid and growing up. It has all the elements of everything I like. Hands down my favorite show. I decorate my room with Doctor Who memorabilia such as little figurines and TARDIS lights. Secretly I want the Doctor Who backpack and who can go without a fez.

As you first watch the re-launched series you will see how cheesy the graphic. But if you look past the lack of graphics, you will find a great story in the making. Also, I’d like to point out that you can’t just ask someone to explain Doctor Who. There’s just so much timey-whimey stuff going on, and the Pandorica just restarted everything, and people were dead but not dead…you have to just see it to understand. Throughout the years the development of the cinematography and graphic design has captured a certain awe and emotion. Let’s just say I’ve cried a few times watching this show.

the_ninth_doctor_tardis_christopher_eccleston_wallpaper-other

As a viewer we wish the Doctor would plant his blue box in our yard and take us as his traveling companion. Who wouldn’t want to see the world and travel through time? As Christopher Eccleston regenerates to David Tennant we start to see his relationship with his companion Rose Tyler (played by Billie Piper) grow and mature. All us girls wish we were Rose Tyler. I get choked up every time he was going to say it but couldn’t and then she cries. Can I stop typing now, I need a minute. Oh how Bad Wolf is a blessing and a curse.

David-Tennant-6326554

Rose-rose-tyler-1088680_1024_768

The Doctor Meets other companions such as Donna Noble and Martha Jones and makes villains as well. The Angels are my favorite villain. Let me just say I hate dolls. I always think they are looking at you. They’re just creepy. So when you have a statue of an Angel that gets closer every time you look away and can take you back in time away from your loved ones, yeah there is something to worry about.

donna-the-doctor-donna-2504270-800-450

MarthaAfter42

Fortunately, the Doctor is able to fight these foes and come out on top. As David Tennant regenerates to Matt Smith we lose a great actor that could be the Doctor forever, but unfortunately all things comes to an end. David Tennant grew up always wanting to be the Doctor. He would get in trouble because all his essays in school were about Doctor Who in some way. If you read about him on IMDB on his trivia it can tell you more interesting facts.

aa-20130603090839988934-620x349

Matt Smith really took over the meaning of the Doctor. He made bow ties cool and when he couldn’t figure out how to argue back he always told you to “shut up” as his defense. Whenever he was excited he would spin and pull out his screwdriver. “Geronimo!” he would go and we all knew he was onto something. His love for his friend such as Amy Pond and Rory Williams helped the Doctor understand love and what we are willing to do to fight for it. We also are also introduced to River Song who is also a time traveler. When her character is first introduced with David Tennant we see that it his future wife he will marry yet they are both at different ends of the time spectrum gradually getting closer with every time they see each other. We also find out other things along the way but no spoilers here.

00026459_Doctor_Who

rory-doctor-who

Currently the Doctor is played by Peter Capaldi and his companion is Clara Oswin Oswald played by Jenna Coleman, the impossible girl. I feel that these past few seasons have not been about the Doctor but more about the story of Clara and her relationship with the Doctor. The Doctor seems to get too proud and Clara is there to help him along the way.

Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television show produced by the BBC from 1963 to present day. It is about a mysterious time-travelling humanoid alien adventurer known only as “The Doctor”, a Time Lord from the planet of Gallifrey. He explores time and space with various companions in his TARDIS, a time-traveling space ship. Although bearing remarkably human-like features, he is a Gallifreyan Time Lords — a mysterious alien race that has mastered time travel. The Doctor occasionally regenerates into a new form, allowing a new actor to step into the role. The Doctor faces a variety of foes and enemies along his travels but also helps people along the way.

Doctor Who originally ran from 1963 to 1989. Russell T Davies relaunched Doctor Who in 2005. The first series of the 21st century, featured Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. Doctor Who also spawned spin-offs such as Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures , both created by Russell T Davies.

This is a blog : the third : Sherlock BBC

_75987533_sherlockandwatson

Sherlock Holmes. Arthur Conan Doyle’s character has fascinated us for decades. If you haven’t seen Sherlock the BBC series then you probably don’t know good TV. Sherlock played by Benedict Cumberbatch (Atonement, War Horse, The Hobbit, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Imitation Game) and Watson played by Martin Freeman (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Hobbit, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, The World’s End) star in this British television mystery crime drama series. If you love Arthur Conan Doyle’s books you’ll love this modernized series.

4d5ad011787d46236d0bd8bbf46d41be

Sherlock isn’t like a typical TV series. Running at an average 1 hour and 30 mins, 3 per season, you get the movie experience without the dragged out series.

Martin Freeman as John Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock

I love watching Sherlock because I love trying to figure out who-dunnit. With Sherlock you can feel smarter and feel more sophisticated as you drink your tea. Oh how I would love to have a Sherlock party where we all dress fancy and sip our tea and eat biscuits.

The visual appeal of Sherlock is that of hipster elements and modern conceptual art. Shots of London are shown throughout and A+ performance from both Benedict and Martin.

“I’m not going to go into detail about how I do what I do because chances are you wouldn’t understand. If you’ve got a problem that you want me to solve, then contact me.” Sherlock

This is a blog : the second : Once Upon a Time

PicsArt_1417053087992 As a child I would watch Disney movies and sing and dance. My favorites were those of Robin Hood, Peter Pan, and The Little mermaid. Oh how I wish I could fly, fly away from my problems. I wish I could be in a different world and that all everything was better in song. Maybe that’s why I love to sing because it takes me to another place where I’m not scared and I can be me. Whether you were raised liking a fox, a mermaid, a lion, a princess, a prince, or a villain, we all have the same thoughts. We wish life was like a fairy tale.

One of my favorite TV shows Once Upon A Time has done a great way to explain to us what that would be like. Since this show is so complex with every episode I apologize for such a lengthy post. But it is hard to sum up each season without giving away pivotal points and “no way!” moments. If you aren’t watching Once Upon A Time its probably because you don’t want to be seen watching fairy tales and seem wimpy or less of a man or woman. On the contrary, this show delivers strong characters, and characters that fight for anything. So without further adieu here is what you are missing and a snapshot of what this show brings.

once_upon_a_time_by_gladnessgalvin-d5wm1n3

Season 1

Emma Swan, a bail bonds person, is surprised on her birthday by her 10-year-old son Henry who she gave up for adoption. He then tells her he lives in place called Storybrooke, Maine. She then drives him back to his foster mother to find out things don’t seem right. As a “new” parent and as a bail bonds person she knows when something isnt right. As viewers, we can see who is who as this show does cut scenes from “the magical world” to the real world. The town is put under a curse by the Evil Queen to where the have differnet personas and dont remember the fairy tale world they came from. Emma stays a few days in this town at Grannys bed and breakfast that lays above the diner. Regina, Henry’s foster mother or the Evil Queen, does not like Emma because shes different and new. According to Henry, and his magical fairy tale book, his mother Emma is the Saviour and she must get everyone their happy endings. Throughout season 1, we are introduced to our favorite Disney princes, princesses, villans, and suppporting characters. Thou season 1 is a little slow ( most dramas are) we have to understand they are telling a story and introducing characters in the first part of the story. Jam packed in first season we see Prince Charming and Snow White wedding, how Emma was born, how the Evil Queen casted her sleeping curse and the curse that have them al stuck in the town, Prince Charmings back story, a little sneak at Rumplestiltskin. Meanwhile in our world we see how far true loves kiss goes, and how Emma and Regina battle for the safety of Henry. We also see how ones belief in magic can save a town from the Evil Queens curse. Everything else in season 1 is just dressing and suporting roles and stories for the actual storyline.

MEGHAN ORY, EMILIE DE RAVIN, ROBERT CARLYLE, JARED S. GILMORE, JENNIFER MORRISON, JOSH DALLAS, GINNIFER GOODWIN, LANA PARRILLA

Season 2

As season 2 starts we are open to seeing that Emma has lifted the curse and everyone has their memories back. But everything is not all roses aand sunshine especially in this fairy tale drama. Magic beans, portals, pirates, giants, ogres, and more magic unwind in this seasson. We find out more of the Evil Queens backstory and what made her so evil and that befor eit all started she was just girl in love. We also see how Rumplestiltskin ( or the crocodile) lived his life before when he was only a poor cowardly human that only cared for his boy and was willing to do anything to live for his family. As the story plays we also see that he meets Killigan Jones aka Hook and see a feud develop between the characters over Rumple’s wife. Thus, Killigan becomes Hook. In the real world Emma, and Snow White fall into a portal through the Mad Hatters hat after trying to fight off a wraith that Rumple had called to kill Regina. They fall into the Forbidden Forest and team up with Mulan and Aurora and beknown to them Hook. As Emma and Snow White try to find a way back to their loved ones they encounter fighting ogres, giants, and even Reginas evil mother. Emmas relationship with Hook grows and we see that Emma isnt that easy to be swooned. We see also that Emma unleashes some powers of her own. As they are able to get back through a portal by a magical bean we see they arent the only ones. Hook and Reginas mother Kora join in on the fun as well. The season comes to a close as the gang tries to find a way to defeat Kora ( since she is more evil than the Evil Queen) and we see how Rumple only wants to find his son. He creates a potion to do this ( since crossing the town border makes you forget your memories of his past life) and he brings along Emma and Henry for the ride. We find out where and who Rumples son is and as they come back more drama unfolds and people arent who they seem. With new characters brings in new conflict as Henrys life is in danger and he is basically kidnapped and taken through a portal to Neverland.

This is a blog : the first : The Mysteries of Laura

608692_654x440

Hello everyone. A lot of people these days believe they are real bloggers. That they type and that it’s good. A real blogger naturally writes. They don’t need to use big words or blog about something that’s popular like mustaches (oh gawd what were we thinking) just to get followers. Real bloggers you can get in their head. Real bloggers you feel as if you are the writing the blog yourself. Just because you have a Facebook does not make you a blogger. I’m here to tell you that I am a blogger. Always thinking but never writing. So here I go…

As I type watching The Mysteries of Laura on Hulu, I smile. Growing up reading those Nancy Drew books and always being so fascinated, watching CSI Las Vegas, and with the idea of Sherlock Holmes character, I always felt as if mysteries were calling me. Oh and Debra Messing is also one of my favorite real actresses.

mysteries-of-laura

You aren’t watching The Mysteries of Laura you say?  Well your missing out. This hip, fist pumping, always quirky mystery comedy series will deliver. Debra Messing ( known for Will & Grace) is recently soon to be divorced cop who only wants to solve the who-dunnit just to get home to her rumbustious children just to solve who to watch her kids while she’s gone. With each episode we see her grow as a mother and grow in herself. Now for you guys out there watching a show about a mother cop doesn’t appeal your interest. I get that. But did I forget to mention her boss is her husband! I smell controversy. With working with your soon-to-be ex comes constant tug a war and with two kids “Laura” has so much on her plate. Her husband Jake played by Josh Lucas ( from Sweet Home Alabama) is a sassy, manipulative, yet charming character. With his smooth voice we, and sometimes Laura, fall into his whimsical ways. There’s also more comedy as Max Jenkins character plays Laura’s assistant or should we say intern. For when the show is lacking in comedy they bust out the intern just to keep it going.
